When we remove your braces, we will begin the retention stage of your treatment. This retention phase truly lasts a lifetime. As long as you are alive, your teeth have the potential to move. As you age, the pressures put upon your teeth by your lips, cheeks and tongue will change and these changes can affect the alignment of your teeth. That is why we recommend that you wear your retainers indefinitely, even if it is for just a couple of nights a week.

Maintaining your final orthodontic result depends on you and your retainers, so follow through with the hard work you've put in so far. Remember to remove your retainer before brushing, and clean your retainer before placing it back in your mouth.

Removable Retainers

The Essix retainer is a transparent removable retainer that fits over the entire arch of teeth. Similar to Invisalign trays, Essix retainers have no wires. They can often times be fabricated while you wait and are easier to wear. They can be used for other treatments as well, including minor tooth movement.

Your removable retainers should be worn every night unless your orthodontist tells you otherwise.
